Yard waste collection for 2022 has begun. Collections will continue the second and fourth Fridays of the month through November.
The annual Spring Park Clean-Up will be on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to noon (with a rain makeup date of May 7). If you would like to help, meet at School Yard Park and clean up crews will disburse from there. Lunch will be served at School Yard Park for all volunteers after the clean up. We ask volunteers to bring their own gloves. Please RSVP by April 27 so we can get an accurate lunch count. Contact Village Trustee Patrick Brinkman, at pbrinkman@uniongrove.net to RSVP.
An electronics recycling event will be held at the Union Grove Wastewater Treatment Plant (3710 67th Dr.) on Saturday, April 30, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The following items will be accepted for collection: computers, monitors, circuit boards, cables, printers, mice, keyboards, TV’s, stereos, VCRs, DVD players, power tools, telephones, small appliances and electrical equipment. There is a disposal fee of $20 per TV, $10 per tube monitor, $5 per microwave and $5 per large exercise equipment. For questions, contact Midwest Recycling at 847-582-1730.

Water utility customers who have had a “smart” meter installed in recent years now have the ability to monitor their home or business usage online (or by mobile app), with hourly readings, past usage graphics and other features. Monitoring enables customers to detect leaks from toilets, outside hose bibs, or appliance failures, as well as seasonal usage.
Polls will be open for the Spring Election on Tuesday, April 5, from 7 AM to 8 PM at Union Grove Municipal Center (925 15th Ave). The ballot will include races for Village Board, School Board, County Supervisor, Circuit Court Judge, and Court of Appeals Judge. The ballot will also include an advisory referendum on the use of ATVs, UTVs and golf carts on Village roads (a Frequently Asked Questions on this topic can be found here).
Disposable wipes — used for changing diapers, personal hygiene, housecleaning, and more — cause major problems when flushed down toilets. Because they don’t break down the way toilet paper does, these wipes clog homeowner and municipal sewer pipes, put stress on community wastewater collection and treatment equipment, and cause municipalities to spend thousands on premature equipment repair and replacement.
A draft Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP) will be presented to the public at the Village Board meeting coming up on Monday, April 11 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Municipal Center Community Room (first floor). The plan is the culmination of a year-long process that included a community survey, public workshop and reviews of several drafts by the Recreation & Parks Committee.
