Are you ready to kick-start your career in Public Works? The Village of Union Grove is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Public Works Trainee. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience maintaining streets, sidewalks, stormwater systems, forestry and grounds, and even snow and ice removal during winter months. With technical training and safety education, this is your chance to develop the skills needed for a successful Public Works career!


About the Job

As the Public Works Trainee, you’ll work outdoors in all weather conditions, assisting full-time staff with infrastructure maintenance, forestry, groundskeeping, and responding to weather emergencies as needed. This is a two-year term position, with regular performance reviews to assess engagement and development.

Schedule:

  • Approximately 40 hours per week, with periodic overtime as needed.
  • Opportunities for skill development and training throughout the term.

What You’ll Learn:

  • Forestry and Groundskeeping Maintenance
  • Street, Sidewalk, and Curb Maintenance
  • Sewer and Water System Maintenance
  • Snow and Ice Control Services

Training Opportunities:

  • Confined space entry
  • Trench/shoring safety
  • Work zone safety and flagging
  • Chainsaw and wood chipper operations
  • First aid

After a successful 6-month period, the trainee may be eligible for Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training (subject to a repayment agreement).


Qualifications

  • Familiarity with hand tools and power equipment.
  • High school diploma or GED strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work in a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift/move up to 65 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
  • Frequent walking, standing, lifting, reaching, and operating tools or vehicles.
  • Commitment to workplace safety.

Hourly Wage and Benefits

  • Starting Pay: $23.90 - $25.09 per hour, based on qualifications.
  • Benefits: Includes health insurance, enrollment in the Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds pension system, sick and vacation leave.

About the Job

As the Deputy Village Clerk/Court Clerk, you will play a vital role in assisting residents and visitors while supporting the Village Clerk’s office and Municipal Court. Whether greeting customers, answering questions, or processing payments, your focus will be on providing friendly, professional service.

Key Customer Service Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist residents at Village Hall, ensuring a positive and welcoming experience.
  • Answer the Village’s main telephone line, respond to emails and voicemails, and connect residents with staff or resources.
  • Process payments, including tax payments, permit fees, court fines, and other revenues, while maintaining an accurate cash drawer.
  • Assist with seasonal customer service projects, community room rentals, and emergency administrative support.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with elections, including absentee voting, voter registration, and training election officials.
  • Prepare and maintain Village permits, licenses, and meeting minutes.
  • Support Municipal Court operations, including processing citations, managing court schedules, and issuing court-related notices.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with state statutes and Village policies.

Qualifications

  • Education:

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, public administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of two years of experience in customer service, local government, or administrative roles.
  • Skills:

    • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and professionally with the public.
    • Knowledge of government administration, election processes, and municipal financial systems preferred.
    • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
    • Proficiency in modern office technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Perform work in varied indoor and outdoor environments, including fluctuations in temperature.

Hourly Wage and Benefits

  • Pay Range: $21.69 - $27.10 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
  • Benefits: Includes health insurance, enrollment in the WRS pension system, sick and vacation leave.

As the Deputy Treasurer/Utility Clerk, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining Village finances, utility records, and tax collection processes while delivering excellent customer service. Your contributions will help ensure smooth day-to-day operations and accurate financial management.

Key Customer Service Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for residents, assisting with inquiries over the phone, via email, and in person at Village Hall.
  • Process payments, including taxes, utility bills, and other revenues, while maintaining an accurate cash drawer.
  • Respond to customer questions about utility services, billing issues, and account updates with professionalism and courtesy.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support the Village Treasurer with tax collection, special assessments, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and distribute tax roll and tax statements.
  • Manage utility billing operations, including preparing and mailing quarterly bills and maintaining customer and meter records.
  • Record and prepare meeting minutes for the Finance and Public Works Committee meetings as assigned.
  • Assist with Village permits and licenses, filing, processing invoices, and other administrative tasks.

Collaboration and Compliance:

  • Work closely with the Treasurer, Clerk, and other departments to ensure accurate financial and administrative operations.
  • Maintain compliance with Wisconsin’s open meetings and open records laws.
  • Prepare and maintain records for municipal reporting, including special assessments and impact fees.

Qualifications

  • Education:
